Questions and answers

How do you add fractions with different denominators?

Give them the same denominator first. Multiply the top and bottom of each fraction by the other fraction's bottom number, then add the tops and keep the bottom.

How do you multiply fractions?

Multiply the two top numbers together and the two bottom numbers together, then simplify the answer if you can.

How do you divide fractions?

Keep the first fraction, change the division to a multiplication, and turn the second fraction upside down. Then multiply as usual.

What does simplifying a fraction mean?

Dividing the top and bottom by the same number until no number divides both. 6/8 becomes 3/4 when you divide both by 2.
